CCAO-F Course Overview
Claude Certified Associate – Foundations. Blueprint, audience, study allocation and how to use this course.
What the credential validates
That you can apply Claude to complete business and productivity tasks with minimal guidance: using built-in platform features and tools to streamline workflows, identifying opportunities to improve processes, selecting approaches that balance quality, efficiency and cost, and recognising limitations – escalating more complex or technical work to Claude Architects and Developers.
Intended for: professionals who use Claude as a productivity tool – operations, marketing, project management, education, communications and general knowledge work. Typically limited-to-moderate technical expertise, positioned between casual prompt users and technical AI practitioners.
Not intended for: software developers building against APIs or designing agentic systems.
Blueprint (Exam Guide v1.0, July 2026)
| # | Domain | Weight | Items (approx.) | Course page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prompting and Task Execution | 14% | ~8 | Domain 1 |
| 2 | Output Evaluation and Validation | 21% | ~13 | Domain 2 |
| 3 | Product and Model Selection | 12% | ~7 | Domain 3 |
| 4 | Workflow Integration and Solution Design | 16% | ~10 | Domain 4 |
| 5 | Configuration and Knowledge Management | 12% | ~7 | Domain 5 |
| 6 | Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use | 15% | ~9 | Domain 6 |
| 7 | Troubleshooting and Optimization | 10% | ~6 | Domain 7 |
Where the marks are
Output Evaluation (21%), Workflow Integration (16%) and Governance (15%) together are 52% of the exam. This credential tests judgment about using AI responsibly and verifying its output more than it tests prompting tricks.
Two full practice exams
This course ships two full-length, blueprint-weighted practice exams. Practice Exam 1 is your diagnostic – sit it first to find weak domains. Practice Exam 2 is deliberately harder (more multi-constraint stems and FIRST / MOST cost-effective / TWO qualifiers) – use it as your booking gate under timed conditions. All items across both exams and the domain pages are distinct.
The Associate’s mindset
The exam repeatedly rewards one posture: Claude is a capable, fast, fallible collaborator whose output you own. Correct answers tend to:
- Verify before relying – especially numbers, citations, names, dates and legal or medical claims.
- Match the tool to the task – Projects for recurring context, research mode for sourced synthesis, artifacts for iterable deliverables, Haiku/Sonnet/Opus by stakes.
- Decompose rather than mega-prompt.
- Respect data sensitivity and organisational policy over convenience.
- Escalate technical or high-stakes work to Developers and Architects instead of improvising.
Wrong answers tend to: trust confident output, paste sensitive data into unsanctioned tools, use the most expensive model for everything (or the cheapest for high-stakes work), and treat Claude as a source of truth rather than a drafting partner.
Suggested time allocation (25-hour plan)
| Domain | Weight | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Output Evaluation and Validation | 21% | 5.5 |
| Workflow Integration and Solution Design | 16% | 4 |
| Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use | 15% | 4 |
| Prompting and Task Execution | 14% | 3.5 |
| Product and Model Selection | 12% | 3 |
| Configuration and Knowledge Management | 12% | 3 |
| Troubleshooting and Optimization | 10% | 2 |
Hands-on preparation checklist
- Create a Claude Project with custom instructions and 3–5 knowledge files; observe how answers change.
- Use research mode on a question you already know the answer to; audit every citation.
- Produce a deliverable as an artifact and iterate three times.
- Connect one connector (e.g., Google Drive) and note what data becomes reachable.
- Deliberately elicit a hallucination (ask for an obscure statistic) and practise detecting it.
- Draft a one-page acceptable-use summary for your team, mapping data classes to allowed actions.
- Compare Haiku, Sonnet and Opus on the same task and articulate the difference.
